Claudio Spieler
Born in 1981 in Bregenz, Austria, Claudio started playing percussion at the age of seven. He was trained as a classical percussionist at the Vorarlberg Conservatory for Music in Austria and received his Bachelor of Arts with distinction in 2004.
In 2004, he started his private studies with the renowned international percussion artist - maestro Hakim Ludin. Under Hakim Ludin´s wing he learned the language and the art of playing hand percussion. In 2008, the product of the student/maestro relationship developed into the founding of the innovative duo program called Percussion Discussion. Due to his intensive work with Hakim Ludin, Claudio has developed a comprehensive repertoire and a large amount of hand and finger techniques for different framedrums, Afrocuban and Afrobrazilian drums and Indian drums.
Always striving for improvement Claudio studied with great musicians like Luis Conte, Karuna Murthy, Juan-Carlos Melian, Steve Smith, Sankha Chatterjee, Lenny Castro, Alex Acuña, Pete Lockett, Swapan Chaudhuri, Richie Gajate-Garcia, Cepillo, Rubem Dantas, Ramon Porrina, Paquito Gonzalez and Selva Ganesh.
Concerts and Tours
Claudio performs in a wide range of musical styles with his current ensembles: Tevana, Ragga Gröndal & The Icelandic Folk Ensemble, Ragga Gröndal Trio, World of Strings, Groovetrotters and Barokan. He has worked with many different artists including Peter Herbert, Phil Maturano, Konstantin Wecker, Peter Madsen, Daniel Pezzotti, Raquel Villegas Gomez, Maria Mezcle, Amit Chatterjee, Apratim Mayumdar, Mamadou Diabate, Studio Percussion Graz, Karen Lugo, Bitori and Abbos Kosimov; and has been invited to perform at well-known festivals like Reykjavik Jazz Festival, Percussion Festival Telfs, Flamenco Biennale Netherlands, Airwaves Iceland, Night of Percussion Graz, WOMAD Fuerteventura, Wiener Konzerthaus and many more.

Besides touring live, he has recorded many studio albums with his current projects and appears as a special guest on Hakim Ludin’s instructional DVDs „Modern Percussionist vol. 5 and vol. 6“.
Claudio is in great demand as a percussion instructor and has given workshops at several prestigious music institutions such as the „Drummer´s Institute Düsseldorf“, „The Austrian Percussion Camp“ and the University of Music Graz, etc.
